Abstract. A collection of apple accessions was tested with SSR primers. The genetic-relatedness dendrogram was concordant with known pedigree information. The analysed markers proved to be very useful for managing apple germplasm collections.

Use of microsatellite markers in the molecular characterization of apple germplasm collections

Summary

A collection of 45 Malus × domestica accessions, from the Warsaw Agricultural University experimental station, was tested using eight SSR markers. Pairwise distance was calculated between the accessions from which a phenogram based on unweighted pair group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA) cluster analysis was constructed. The genetic-relatedness dendrogram was concordant with known pedigree information. These SSR markers proved to be a very informative tool that can be very useful for managing apple ex situ germplasm collections.
